Quoates : We eat light, drink it in through our skins. With a little more exposure
to light, you feel part of things physically. I like feeling the power
of light and space physically because then you can order it materially.
Seeing is a very sensuous act–there’s a sweet deliciousness to feeling
yourself see something.

Reflective Questions
What attracted you to this piece of interactive art in the first place?
- Why I attract to this art because this art is installation art and currently I am studying in Media Arts which is I more to exposed to this type of art. Besides that, it constructed from various materials with strongly moving fluorescent lights. Stuck Red and Stuck Blue also give an optical illusion to the audiences which is very awesome and very rare to gain the same experience with others artwork. This artwork also taking audiences into a different world of light.
How did you feel when you first saw this interactive art?
- I feel very impressed when I see this artwork for the first time because to me I never think in my mind that light can be manipulate to be a very fantastic interactive art which is can give an illusion optical towards audience eventhough in our life we are contact to light which is surrounding us and the most elementary thing in existance.
What element/s made this interactive art successful in engaging you?
- To me elements made this interactive art succesful in engaging me is the light and the artist which is James Turrel is brilliant guy because he can merge a few elements to become one succesful interactive art. The elements that he used is basically light from fluorescent lights then he manage to manipulate it with the pieces are displayed in a specially constructed octagonal chamber.
The floor, ceiling, and every wall are all painted in a deep burgundy, and are carefully and evenly lit. Stuck Red and Stuck Blue are placed on two of the longer walls, which are separated by a shorter "corner" wall. The lights aren't visible directly, but they illuminate exactly the space cut from the wall, with no spillage and the result is audiences can feel an optical illusion and the difference world of light
What was the ‘wow’ factor for you?
- The factor makes me feel 'wow' is besides an optical illusion it also giving the impression that the light projections are a part of the same linear plane as the walls are when viewed from a distance. Like many of his other light based pieces, Stuck Red and Stuck Blue invoke a sense of timelessness with their simplicity and usage of ageless light. As quoted by Turrell himself in the book “James Turrell: The Art of Light and Space”, “It has no sense of stylistic development” that is to say it does not evolve or progress, but rather stays free of change or history and static in its form. Besides that James Turrel himself have others qualification in others fields besides art and he can applicate his knowledge in perceptual psychology to form a very fantastic artwork.
If there is one thing that you want to add to this interactive artwork, what would it be?
- I will add sensor to detect any human touch sense at the wall. When the sensor detect any sense of touch from audiences it will change the colours of light follow up by the audio depending how the audiences touch the wall to make this artwork more interactive and interesting.
